New speakers announced for Innovation Zero

Unmanned-Power-to-Methanol (UP-TO-ME) is a Horizon Europe project funded by the European Union (grant agreement number 101083323) that aims to target a change in decentralised Power-to-Methanol production for hard to electrify applications. The project involves the use of Hydrogen, Oxygen and Carbon that have been introduced as our project characters in the latest UP-TO-ME project explainer video.

The project process involves the use of CO₂ from biogas and Hydrogen from water electrolysis to develop novel technologies to produce renewable methanol, by a fully autonomous, self-optimising and compact technology.

How are the UP-TO-ME characters used in the project?

• Firstly, the project captures and stores CO₂ whilst separating Hydrogen from water using renewable energy.
• Once Hydrogen and Oxygen are separated, green hydrogen is combined with CO₂ to produce methanol.
• The Oxygen that was separated from H₂O now has the potential to be supplied to the aeration system of a wastewater treatment plant.
• This is all achieved by the automated, unmanned UP-TO-ME technology and the smart full automation, self-optimisation and remote monitoring will enable dynamic off-grid operation of this Power-to-Methanol plant.

UP-TO-ME is a 36-month project that has just embarked on its 2^nd year and is making great progress. The project is possible due to the continued dedication of a European Consortium combining seven expert organisations.
