Yorkshire Water is beginning a £572,000 project to replace around 1,426 metres of water mains in Hipperholme, Halifax. The upgrade is designed to improve the resilience and reliability of the local clean water network.
The work forms part of Yorkshire Water’s wider £406m investment programme to replace more than 1,000km of water mains across the region, included within the company’s £8.3bn infrastructure investment over the next five years.
Scott Gammon, Project Manager at Yorkshire Water, said: “This essential upgrade will provide a robust and reliable clean water network, reducing leakage and the likelihood of future bursts, minimising disruption for our customers in the area.”
The project will be delivered by contract partners Sapphire Utility Solutions. Work is scheduled to begin on Monday 8 September along Halifax Road and Leeds Road, starting at the junction of Halifax Road (A58) and Tanhouse Hill, with additional work planned on Barfield Road and Thompson Close.
Gammon added: “We’re working closely with local Highways and to keep everyone safe there will be a temporary road closure at the junction with a signed diversion in place for approximately two weeks. We’ll be working as quickly as possible to keep disruption to a minimum and thank road users and residents for their patience whilst we carry out this important work.”
Yorkshire Water is keeping local residents updated as the work progresses. Completion of the scheme is scheduled by Christmas 2025.
